Well maybe not this year. At least so I am told by those in “the know,” a couple of well placed bunnies with an ear always to the ground. I wanted to double check just in case that quaint little custom we have of an Easter egg roll on theWhite House front lawn had jumped the pond and landed in Paris. Rummaging through a robust rolodex, I found who I was looking for. The answer: A non monsieur je suis désolée de vous dire que vous vous êtes trompée. Il n’y aura pas un concoure pour découvrir des œufs de Pâques sur les pelouses de L’Elisée. I inquired again, politely, that maybe there was more “current” information to the contrary? I might as well have insulted his mother. I told him no worries, you are indeed more “in the know” and I will send you a box of Whitman Samplers – simply delicious American chocolates; you’ve never had anything better. Strike two. I owe him lunch I suppose. Sometimes it seems I talk with two left feet.
So where am I going with all of this? Well with Pâques (Easter) almost at my back door along with the wabbit, I thought it would appropriate to hit a few Easter themes this week. I know most of the free world will be taking time off for a long Easter weekend. Well that is everybody in France but me. No skipping out of town, no mad dash down to the South of France, no quick jump to the islands, no waxing my skis and running off to the slopes at Megève like one couple I know in Paris. No, I will be hard a work doing something noteworthy. Cooking is a good bet and I might even weaken and go to my cave for a bottle of something truly spectacular.

So I will be undertaking the difficult task of chocolate tastings and seeing if I can narrow-down a long list of super chocolatiers to just a few Masters of the Chocolate Universe – the Über Chocolatier as it were. Can you possibly conceive how difficult this task will be? And of course I must think about a dish – I won’t call it an Easter dish because that just limits my options. And that won’t do.
